Most  of the travelers think it is the authorities who should know everything properly but passengers must be informed as well. But did you know that passengers too have certain responsibilities while travelling by Train?  There are certain responsibilities of passengers too.

There  are strictly restricted items which are disallowed to be carried while travelling in train by the Indian Railways, below may not be an  exhaustive list but can be used for referring to restricted items while  travelling in train –

DANGEROUS, FLAMMABLE, CHEMICAL OR BIOLOGICAL ITEMS:

FIREARMS

o Firearms, even if decommissioned

o Replicas or toys with the appearance of a real weapon

o Ammunition (all calibres, all quantities)

o Any other article manufactured, adapted or intended for use as an assault weapon

o Acids, any commodity having acid or inflammable gas content or deemed dangerous for the well-being of the co-passengers

BLADES

o Pocket knives and blades (even professional cooking knives) with a blade longer than 3 inches/75 mm

o Razors other than disposable

o Ceremonial blades or those used for martial arts

EXPLOSIVES

o  Any explosive item or substance, for example: shells (including  souvenirs and historic replicas), detonators, smoke cartridges,  grenades, mines, military explosives, fireworks, flares, pyrotechnics,  etc.

o Replica bombs

GAS AND LIQUIDS

o All items containing gas, liquids or other inhibitory substances (including CS gas sprays)

o Flammable substances except in very small quantities (lighter fluid, methylated spirit)

o Fuel, paint, methylated spirits, paint thinner, flammable spray in significant quantities

o Empty or full gas cylinders

o Corrosive substances

LUGGAGE THAT PRESENTS A HEALTH RISK

o Items emitting an unpleasant smell or that risk spilling in the train : Dead Poultry

o Luggage that contains parasites

OTHERS

o Gardening equipment and tools (e.g. chainsaw, secateurs, etc.)

o Weed killer, chemical products, flammable household products in significant quantities (e.g. solvent)

o Tear gas/pepper spray

o Pets : Birds, fishes, dogs or cats

o  Offensive or derogatory items carried by the passengers, which hurts  the sentiments of the co-passengers can also be treated as a violation  of the luggage carrying code.

In order to avoid all sorts of difficulties, keep in mind all the restricted items while packing and travelling in train.

A  small mistake and ignorance while travelling with restricted items can  land you up in an situation which can be no less than a nightmare.
